2016 Ram Rebel 1500 Air Suspension Conversion

At Unlimited Offroad, we recently completed a major suspension upgrade on a Ram 1500 Rebel 2016 — converting the factory air suspension to a more reliable and capable setup using the AirDelete Ram 1500 Bilstein 3" Lift & Conversion Kit Combo (2013–2018).

The Challenge

Like many Rebel owners equipped with factory air suspension, our customer began experiencing the all-too-common warning message: “Service Air Suspension”. Over time, the truck would intermittently sag, and the compressor was cycling more frequently than normal.

These are some of the most frequent industry complaints with the Ram 1500 air suspension system:

  • Air spring leaks developing over time
  • Compressors overworking and eventually failing
  • Height sensors triggering fault codes
  • Cold-weather performance issues
  • Expensive repair bills that can compound quickly

While the air system performs well when new, many owners report reliability concerns as mileage increases — especially past the 50,000–80,000 mile range.

The Solution

Rather than continuing to invest in air suspension repairs, our customer chose a permanent fix: the AirDelete Bilstein 3" Lift & Conversion Kit Combo.

This system completely removes the factory air components — including air bags, compressor, and electronic height control — and replaces them with a proven coil spring and Bilstein shock setup. The included reprogramming solution eliminates warning lights and prevents future suspension-related fault codes.

The Results

The upgrade delivered:

  • 3 inches of front lift and approximately 1.5 inches in the rear
  • Improved stance and clearance for larger tires
  • Reliable, maintenance-friendly suspension components
  • Peace of mind with no more air suspension faults

Most importantly, the truck is no longer dependent on complex air system components that are known industry pain points. Instead of chasing intermittent electronic or pneumatic issues, the owner now has a straightforward, durable suspension system built for long-term use.
